Prof. Dr. Nüket Örnek Büken (MD, PhD) was born in 1967, Ankara, where she completed her primary and secondary education. She graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine with MD degree in 1991. She received her PhD degree in 2000 from Department of Deontology-Medical Ethics and History of Medicine at the same faculty.
Dr. Buken was a lecturer at Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine in 2001-2005. She studied as a foreign researcher in Interdisciplinary Bioethics Project and Department of History of Medicine at Yale University in 2004-2005. She was appointed an Associate Professor in 2005 and Professor in 2010 at Department of History of Medicine and Medical Ethics at Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine where she is currently the head of the department.
Dr. Buken is also the head of the Hacettepe Academic Ethics Committee and the member of the Ethics Committees of the Hacettepe University Senate, Clinical Researches, and Non-Interventional Studies and is also the member of Bioethics Committee Turkish National Commission for UNESCO.
Her academic and research interests are ethical aspects of clinical researches, rights of patients and human subjects, medical malpractice, research ethics, communication in medical care and physician-patient relationship, gender mainstreaming and women’s issues. She is second year master student at Women’s Studies at Ankara University.
Dr. Buken is married and has two children.
